Our origins began in 1966, when G. William Paine purchased the
business. The company began building pedestal files for American Seating Company in 1981 and has not looked back. Bill, now semi-retired, turned over the reins to his son Tom Paine in 1995. Tom worked in manufacturing before stepping into the role as President of Metalworks. Steve Paine, another of Bill's sons, has worked in sales, purchasing, manufacturing, and currently serves as President of Fab-Lite, our sister company in Manistee, Michigan. Both Tom and Steve have been with the company for more than 20 years. Both believe as their father, if you treat people fairly you will succeed.

We entered the office furniture industry in 1981 and have since focused 100% of our energy and capacity on being a premier supplier to our customers. Over the years Metalworks has manufactured products for dozens of OEM’s including Steelcase, Herman Miller, Knoll, Hon/Allsteel, KI and many others. As an OEM supplier we learned
to respond to very competitive industry demands for
reliable product quality, extremely short lead-times,
flexibility and low cost.
